Community Service Projects
Established since 1930, the Rotary Club of Penang has adopted the policy of initiating projects to benefit the community; nursing the projects to self sufficiency and then handing over the administration of the projects to the public sector whilst maintaining a presence at committee level.
This policy has proved effective and beneficial to the public as it has enabled the Rotary Club of Penang to initiate worthy projects to meet the community’s needs as and when they arise without being tied down to any one project. Some noteworthy projects initiated by the Rotary Club of Penang include the following:
The Rotary Arts Foundation
The Rotary Arts Foundation provides assistance and scholarships to talented artists, musicians, craftsmen, singers, composers, theatrical performers and other cultural groups to enable them to acquire additional skills and knowledge in their vocations locally and overseas. It also sponsors Annual Art Exhibitions of selected works.
The Rotary Medical and Surgical Fund
This fund is established over time, from surplus donations from the public for designated surgical operations both locally and abroad. The Rotary Medical and Surgical fund medical expenses, subsidized surgical fees, traveling and out of pocket expenses for cranio-facial surgery patients to Australia accompanied by one parent.
