On September 1, 2024, the Rotary Club of Penang celebrated a significant milestone with the formalization of a partnership aimed at enhancing the operations of the JHM Rotary Haemodialysis Center. Established over 20 years ago by the Rotary Club of Penang’s Charity Foundation, the center has been dedicated to providing vital support to patients battling kidney disease, having assisted more than a hundred individuals throughout its operation.
From its inception, the JHM Rotary Haemodialysis Center has benefitted from tremendous community support, enabling it to fulfill its mission of delivering accessible dialysis treatments. Recently, its charitable philosophy has attracted attention from various corporations, leading to meaningful sponsorships. In 2022, a key partnership was formed with JHM Consolidation Bhd, a company renowned for manufacturing electronic components and committed to corporate social responsibility initiatives focused on health and education.
The latest collaboration with San Jiang Temple reflects a shared vision for community welfare. San Jiang Temple has long been involved in charitable activities and community support, demonstrating a commitment to improving the quality of life for its followers and the broader community.
During the ceremony, speakers expressed gratitude for the ongoing support that has allowed the center to operate six dialysis machines, currently serving 17 patients. Dialysis treatment, often a lifelong commitment, imposes significant financial burdens, averaging RM180 to RM240 per session. The partnership aims to alleviate these costs and enhance the overall quality of life for those affected by kidney disease.
Present at the ceremony were key figures including Stephanie Wong, Assisting District Governor of Rotary Malaysia District 3300; Carson Toh, President of the Rotary Club of Penang; Datin Seri Alice from JHM Corporation; Dato Loh Nam Seng from San Jiang Temple; and YB Daniel Gooi, who delivered an officiating speech, highlighting the importance of collaboration in community health initiatives.
